Follow these steps to be a liquor licence holder in Kwa-Zulu Natal
Applying for a liquor licence in 2023 shouldn’t be a hustle, follow these easy steps below so you can also get yourself a licence and start trading.
Step 1
The applicant must acquire an application form(s) for a liquor licence from the KwaZulu-Natal Liquor Authority complete the forms using a checklist and fee list provided with the application forms
Step 2
Documents to accompany the application(s) checklist
Step 3
The applicant can lodge the application with the Liquor Authority on any Friday of month excluding declared public holidays
Step 4
N.B before an applicant can make any payment they must obtain a banking reference number from our office which can be obtainable through telephone, fax or email

The Liquor Authority is registered as a schedule 3C Public Entity in terms of the Public Finance Management Act. The public entity is referred to as the KwaZulu-Natal Liquor Authority (KZNLA).

A fully compliant application may take approximately 112 days to be processed.
The liquor licence is valid for twelve months. It is renewable on an annual basis.
No, a temporary licence is not issued. You may not trade in liquor until your licence application has been approved, and this has been communicated with you.
An application fee for a liquor licence is R1500.00. An activation fee once the liquor license is granted will differ depending on the type of license applied for. A schedule of fees is attached below.
A liquor licence application may be lodged at the KZN Liquor Authority Head Office or District Office on a Friday, except declared public holidays. – Special event applications can only be lodged at the Liquor Authority Head Office, on any day. – Renewal applications can be lodged on any day. E-mail applications are not allowed.
